Your questions answered
How much will I win?
There are 4 categories of winners – the Best Idea & Business Plan Overall - £5,000; Best Idea & Business Plan by/with Disabled Persons - £4,000; Best Idea & Business Plan by Female Entrepreneur/s - £4,000; Best Idea - £2,000.
Winners and other Entrants can also access free advice, expertise and support from the Social Enterprise Business Adviser at St Helens Chamber, to help them turn their ideas and proposals into sustainable businesses.
Who can take part in this competition?
Anyone who lives, works, or is studying in St Helens.
Does my idea have to be restricted to St Helens only?
No. In fact it is likely to be as relevant or useful for other areas. We would want, however, your main activities to be
based in the Borough.
Are there lots of forms to fill in?
No. There is only one form for all applicants to complete. Entrants for the Best Business Plan categories obviously need to provide a lot more information. Further guidance is provided on the application form.
Who will be judging the competition?
Kath Boullen (St Helens Chamber), Cate Murphy (Merseyside Single Procurement Vision), Collette Turner (Merseyside Expanding Horizons) and Shaun Doran (FRC Group) have agreed to be judges.
What will the judges be looking for?
They will be looking for good Social Enterprise ideas that address social, economic, or environmental issues and have the potential to be successfully implemented.
Will applications be short listed?
Yes. We will be short listing and asking those with the best ideas to make a short presentation to the judges as part of the selection process. It won’t be like “Dragon’s Den”!
When is the closing date?
The deadline for receiving applications is 12 noon, Friday 1st February 2008 but you may forward your entry as soon as it is completed.
When will know who has won the competition?
The winners will be announced at a lunch-time Award Event in March/April 2008.
We will write to everyone who has taken part with more details nearer the time.
